Bye bye diet coke

Back when I was in college, I had to go on a special food diet for one month because of a test the doctor was doing for my thyroid. I can't remember if I couldn't have sugar or carbs but whatever it was, coke was not on the list of things I could have. To say that I drank a lot of coke would be an understatement! I made it about the first 12 hours of the month long diet before I started craving a coke. The doctor told me I could have diet coke but the taste of it wanted to make me vomit! Well, after 2 or 3 days of no coke, I gave in and drank a diet coke. The taste was horrible but the carbonation cured my craving. It was during this month that you could say I became ADDICTED to diet coke! I actually started to like the taste and eventually started CRAVING diet coke first thing in the morning. I tried to quit several times but after 24 hours I would get that craving back and tell myself "just one won't hurt me" and one led to another and another...until I felt like I was a smoker with a nicotine addiction. Really. Diet coke is like that!

I think every person I know has told me at least once how bad diet coke is for me but it wasn't until 2 weeks ago that it finally hit me...hit me hard! I read this article in a magazine I really like that diet coke is one of the major causes in memory loss in elderly. That did it! After taking care of ABD since his Alzheimer's has gotten worse, I will do everything in my power to keep my memory intact! I haven't even craved it once. So, good bye diet coke forever, I already don't miss you!!!
