how may i serve you?

since i was 15 years old I have worked in the catering business. I'm good at it, i like it, but it is some of the hardest physical work i have ever done. I like that you can say yes when you want, and no when you want, and you don't have a set schedule. I also don't like that you don't have a set schedule because you never know how much work you will or will not have. Most of the time, i like the people. I have been working with a certain catering company a lot the past 2 years and I have met some really great people! Some of them I even call my friends. The thing about catering i dislike, well HATE, the most is the lack of tips! Personally I think it is a sign of disrespect. First, it is a sign of disrespect if the sales rep doesn't remind the client that tips are not included. Second, it is a sign of disrespect if the client doesn't tip. Most people don't get a catering company to cater something simple like their Sunday family dinner at home. Usually it is a big event in someones life..a wedding, a company dinner, a baby shower, a wedding shower, a funeral, a fundraiser, etc. You can have the best food in the world, but if you don't have the people running around making your party flow, keeping the food hot and on the table, setting up, tearing down, cleaning up, washing dishes, running around all night without a break, without eating, well, your party will stink! And lets think about all the people you DO tip... hair stylist, waitress, bar tender, taxi driver, bell hop, bus driver, pizza delivery guy, and many more. So why would you not tip people who are working just as hard (in my opinion even harder) on some of the most important days of your life for an event you always want to remember? Shame on your if you do not tip your caterers! And shame on the service reps if they do not bring it to the clients attention. Everyone HAS to work together! If the sales rep and owners of the company want a good reputation and a good party, they HAVE to take care of the servers! Then, in return, the servers will go out of their way to make the party and the guests have the absolute best party they can have. I have seen it first hand. So the next time you hire a catering company and spend lots of money on food, be sure to remember and thank (with a tip) the people who actually did the most work and the hardest work making your party a night to remember!

Thursday again

wow, is it Thursday again??? time is flying!!

Things I love about today!

1. My dad and I are surprising Noah at school for lunch today and bringing him McDonalds. My dad just moved offices and his office is between my house and Noah's school so we have been loving our lunch dates with him!

2. NO MORE FOOTBALL!!! don't get me wrong, i LOVE Watching Noah play sports but soccer season and approaching and lets be honest....that is just the best sport to watch Noah play!! Plus, it is Noah's favorite too!! PLUS PLUS, where he practiced football was not at the usual park but an elementary school far from us and we always ended up in bad traffic..so yay, it's over!!

3. It's Thursday which means our usual group of friends are coming over to watch some of our favorite tv shows that we have recorded throughout the week. good food, good friends, good shows..love it!

4. I am reading The Thornbirds (thanks to my dear from Meghan Goheen sending me a copy) and we were both named after the main character in that book!

5. Looking forward to tomorrow (yes i know that should be in a Friday post or something) because Noah and several other kids in his school get to ride in a limo to Cici's pizza for lunch tomorrow!! Allen and I are going to be at the Cici's waiting for them. Noah sold enough boxes of cookie dough to win this prize..how cool is that?? So if you bought a box of cookie dough from Noah (mostly my mom, dad, Aunt Lisa Wheeler) then THANK YOU!!!

6. and of course....tomorrow is FRIDAY!!!!!!

so in the words of some very wise men (Bill and Ted and also the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)... "Party on dudes!!"

Thursday...

I love so many things, but these are the things about THURSDAY that I love:

*I love that today is the last football practice of the season. It's not my favorite sport to watch and it isn't Noah's favorite sport to play. He tried it and I am proud of him!

*I love that I just discovered that Brunswick Bowling Alley in Roswell has 99 cent bowling on Thursday. Gonna have to take Noah!

*I love that LifeTime Fitness has indoor open swim with water slides on Thursday from 4-8pm.

*I love that every Thursday we have an awesome group of people over to have dinner and watch our favorite tv shows with.

*I love that tomorrow is Friday!
